I provide live cello playing as well as studio recordings. I have performed music in a large variety of genres. Feel free to search: "Justin Edward Mackey Cello" on any search engine. You will find videos, my owned domain, and a Weebly domain.
I began playing cello for over 10 years now to this day. Along the way, I have been blessed to be able to perform and collaborate with a vast amount of people. I am no stranger to long term projects, far distance traveling to venues, tight schedules, etc. More importantly, I am no stranger to achieving success no matter what the cost. Whether it be time, budget, patience, willpower, and dedication I have experienced and overcome lack of each of these.

You should expect to have me arrive prepared to perform whatever music you require at the time you request. The only requirements I have is simply to be made aware of where and what music I am playing. Also I request a chair to sit in. That's it!
If it is a live session, trust that I am seasoned enough to adapt to quick changes and song requests. Feel free to task me with the unexpected should it be necessary.
Also for live sessions, I will bring my pedal board which sends a mic level output to the mixer or FOH through my piezo. For those that request a mic, I have a Rode- NT1 with stand I can bring upon request.
For studio work , I prefer a week to work on the music you wish to track. For larger overdubs, I will create a session with everything I will play and bring my laptop so I can specifically recreate the sessions in studio.
Dear Reader,
Allow me to personally thank you for your time here. I am Justin Mackey, and I am a cellist. My story is one of both extraordinary opportunity as well as humble accomplishments. I can only express gratitude towards those who invest interest into me. For it is those people who have allowed me to progress to the musician that I am as of right now. People such as yourself, actually.
Having played cello for over 10 years, my life has taken shape around this instrument. An inseparable bond with wood and string, an unquenchable thirst to make beautiful music, and an iron will to succeed under any circumstance has molded me into the musician who writes to you today.
I have overcome many challenges in my life. This instrument that I spend so much time with is not an easy one to master. It takes someone who has skills such as patience, discipline, intuition, problem solving, empathy, humility, and confidence. In other words, it makes me exactly the man you are looking for.
Take the leap and contact me. I'm someone you can trust with whatever you are working towards. It is my belief that everything we do is worth our full effort. Together, we can accomplish anything.

My current project, Citizen Shade. To give a bit of context, I should mention that I am currently enrolled at UNCG for a Bachelors in Cello Performance. David Lezcano, a fellow but now former student, began to collaborate with me here to begin a duo that would be modeled after "Piano Guys".
After a month or so after we began the project, he sends me a message which introduced me to William Purgason's vision: Citizen Shade. It turns out he had been working with him for a short time before they both decided they wanted to bring on another team member to collaborate with. Needless to say we both dropped the "Piano Guys" project completely and immediately dived into the unique opportunity that had been provided to us.
The rest is history which will hopefully continue to write itself for years to come. These two men have become my brothers since that day David messaged me. To learn more, visit (link hidden)

The most recent group I have collaborated with before Citizen Shade is Awestruck Worship. They are a Christian Worship group focusing on a Pop/ Rock sound that is definitely one you will remember.
I jumped on board back in 2013 while I was still a Freshman in college. I still remember the long walks across campus with a cello, guitar, and pedal board only to wait for a bus in order to make it to practice. Tyler Ricketts, former Guitarist and Vocalist for "Runaway City", and Brandon Johnson, former Guitarist and Vocalist for "Phat Chance", both welcomed me to be a part of the group right from the start.
To be perfectly honest, this was my first experience with a band with a polished album and with very real expectations for long term touring. While I was with this group, I had the pleasure to share a stage with groups like "Vertical Church Band" and "For King & Country". You can hear a sample of Awestruck's latest album here.
TECHNICAL INFO
If I am playing outside and not on a state, I prefer to be out of the sun, provided a chair, and a solid surface to place my end-pin.
If I am playing indoors, I am very adaptable. I only request enough space to perform as the minimum radius I require is about 5 ft of space.
GEAR INFO
As for my gear, I will provide my pedal board for me to use which consists of a Tonebone EZ-Pre, a TC Electronic Arena Reverb, and a Line 6 Delay. The preamp will supply a mic level output. More specifically, I can send a pre-eq xlr out, a post eq xlr out, and a quarter inch out simultaneously. The pickup I am using is a Realist Piezo which sits under the right leg of my bridge.
I can also provide my Rode NT-1 with a mic stand should you prefer.
