Jay, and his band, The Nu Lu Bad, has performed in shows with giants such as Nancy Wilson (Vino Jazz Festival) Oleta Adams (Barclay Theater), Pancho Sanchez and sax great Azar Lawrence (Jazz for Lovers). His 3 octave baritone voice has been called a hypnotic mix of Lou Rawls, Tom Jones and Al Jarreau. Known for his swinging jazz, blues and funk styles, Jay was trained at the prestigious LaDuca Brothers Music Academy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Go Pack!!!).

Greetings. Jay Jackson & The Nu Lu Band brings a wide range of jazz-influenced music to your event. Whether it's a corporate party, wedding, restaurant, club or concert hall, we're known to get your crowd moving. When Nancy Wilson said to us, after performing before her at the Vino Jazz Festival - "...y'all swing hard!"... I knew we were on the right track. From Nat King Cole classics to Frank Sinatra standards to Jobim's bossas, you won't have to worry about the music portion of your event. Our repertoire fits a wide variety of tastes and musical preferences. Also, we're a band that's completely self contained. We bring our own amps, mics, speakers and equipment. All we need is an electrical outlet. Now, talk about your conversation piece. With his beloved role as "Perd Hapley" on the hit NBC sitcom, "Parks & Recreation", your guests will no doubt keep the conversation lively, especially if they're fans of the show. Keep in mind, Jay has appeared in numerous other national programs, such as The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Mentalist, Dexter, The Closer and Body of Proof. He's also scene in the billion-dollar blockbusters "Fast Five" and "Battleship". Jay has no problem signing autographs for fans, or sharing interesting tidbits about the shows he works on. We're all just trying to have fun, right?
Finally, if you're not listening to Jay, or watching a tv show or movie he's in, you can always catch him on CBS2/KCAL 9 News where he works as a freelance reporter. Winner of numerous awards, including an Emmy and Golden Mic, Jay is one of the most respected reporters in Los Angeles. In addition, his "Jay's Jazz Journey's", on highly regarded (link hidden) website is one of the most anticipated blogs in the Los Angeles Jazz community.
How We Work
After contacting our band, we'll discuss the size of the venue, expected number of people, the band's performance area and agree on the fee. That's it. Give us the date and time, and we're there. We want the music to be the last thing you have to stress over. That way, everybody's happy. So give us a try. You won't regret it... or we'll give you your money back.
A small stage is always preferred, but certainly not required.
