When people have watched my perform they tell me that they feel like my performances are genuine and authentic. They like the expression and color that I add to the music. Even though I have a cheap guitar, I have worked hard at perfecting my stroke to where I even get great tone quality out of a cheap Chinese factory guitar. I am always early to all of my events and if I am running late for some mysterious reason I will always let my clients know in advance and will provide compensation.
As far as lessons, as I am writing this I actually have NO experience teaching lessons. I know that might sound scary to a future client, but everyone has to start somewhere. I am fortunate to have an amazing guitar teacher who has not only taught me how to play the guitar, but has also taught me guitar pedagogy and the history of the guitar from the renaissance period forward. So I may not have any experience teaching but I do have an idea of how I am going to start and have learned the fundamentals of teaching guitar.
I have been playing guitar since I was 6 years old. I started out playing rock and folk, my favorite was Creedence Clearwater Revival. I was not very persistent with may practice though and went years without even touching the guitar after getting frustrated with my "slow progress." I picked it up again in my teen years and played nothing but heavy metal. I was pretty much self taught at this point and started to pick up a lot of bad habits, such as playing with too much tension. I didn't care about music theory until I started studying music in college. In fact I had never really played scales, I would always get bored of them. In college I learned how to read music started playing scales and arpeggios on a regular basis. I really started to feel like I was actually a "musician." I didn't start learning Classical guitar until college. Since Classical guitar technique pays so much attention to detail, it quickly eliminated all of the bad habits I had developed from my heavy metal days. I know I still have a lot of progress and I have a lot of days where I feel like I am not good enough to make a living from this and start comparing myself to guitarist that are miles ahead of me and have been playing guitar for much less time than me. Then I remember where I was when I started and I see how much progress I have made, and I realize that the opportunities this website will give me will only make me a better player, teacher, and performer.
I would like to note that in addition to being a guitar player, I am also a Christian. I Have experiencing playing in Church bands and even leading a youth worship team at one point. I would love to do classical guitar performances at churches and am willing to do it unpaid, because it is a service to the Lord and to the body of Christ. I would really like to start learning some hymns on the classical guitar and will post videos of that once I have learned them. Please let me know if you would like me to come perform at your Church.
As of right now I have a low end Classical Guitar but am saving up for a "performance" guitar. Because of this I can not play in any large venues or music halls. I am thinking the sound will carry just enough for a 100-150 person capacity room, maybe more.
Is regards to my Lessons, I offer lessons at my home and I am also willing to meet in someone else's residence for lessons. I charge for lessons on a monthly basis unless they are individual lessons. I charge $90/month for 30-min lessons, $120/month for 45-min lessons, and $160/month for 1-hour lessons. I charge $50 for 1-hour individual lessons and $25 for 30-min individual lessons.
