I perform with the audience in mind. My repertoire is mainly retro, including songs from the '60s through to the '90s. The artists are varied to include a wide span of eras. I also interact with the audience and let them know what I am playing next. And I ask them to sing along if they know the words and can provide lyric sheets if requested. All in all, I make sure everyone has fun!
Karen Elstone, otherwise known as SopranoSister, grew up in west Toronto with a love for all things rock. While the classic rock hits played on the radio and vinyl, she dreamed of being a rock star. She did not pursue her dream until later in life, after deciding that administrative work left her with a void. She went back to school to study voice at both Humber College and York University, where she earned an Honours Degree in Classical Voice. But rock and roll continues to be her real love. She is also influenced by the blues and folk. Inspirational musicians include Sarah McLachlan, The Pretenders, Sheryl Crow, Joni Mitchell, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Neil Young, Heart, Pink Floyd, Alanis Morissette, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin.
She is now writing her own material, with help from guitarist and musician Bill Conlon, who plays lead guitar on Karen's song Danger, Music Is My High and Sticky Summer Air. Michael Ratt plays bass guitar on Danger, Cleanse Me and Fantasy. Mike Rafton plays guitar tracks on Fantasy and Let It Out.
Karen is mainly involved in music for the joy it gives to her and to use her artistic talents to their fullest. She is happy to be able to create music and gives back to the community by volunteering at guitar sing-along nights and singing at open mic events. Her goal is putting the finishing touches on 10 original songs for a recording project that she plans to release in 2017. Karen also loves the theatre and hopes to produce or perform in a musical in the future.
Performing on stage is Karen's number one joy, as well as helping others to realize their talents.

I would require an area of approximately 5' x 5' to perform in. There should be sufficient lighting in order to view material that is being performed (i.e. chord sheets, if required). I have my own microphone and mic stand, as well as a small portable amplifier. I would just have to have an electrical outlet for this amp fairly close, or else an extension cord available.

My influences are Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow, Joni Mitchell, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Heart, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt...basically, a mix of old and new rock and folk.
Would just require an electrical outlet for my portable 5W amplifier, along with enough space to accommodate a chair, the amp and a mic stand.
