Men in Black is one the top ranked men's quartets in the world today! Formed in 2002, Men In Black has performed all over the USA, Canada, and Scandinavia entertaining audiences of all ages. Influenced by styles such as Broadway, Classical, Jazz and Barbershop, this ensemble brings a unique sound to a cappella music. Lifelong students of the theatre, Tony Nasto, Oliver Merrill, Ray Johnson and Karl Hudson each draw from their extensive experience and education in theatre and the performing arts, to combine powerful, character-driven presentation with crisp, tight harmonies. Men In Black is dedicated to the education of all people on the joy of making music through vocal harmony and has toured high schools, colleges and universities across the United States, enriching the lives of young people and showing them the power of song.
Tony Nasto (Tenor) is recently married and currently resides in West Hartford, CT with his wonderful wife, Mary. They were married on June 30 in Ashland, OR just before the 2012 International Barbershop Convention in Portland, OR. Tony graduated from the University of Hartford as a student of the Hartt School of Music in May of 2007 with a Bachelor's of Music degree; emphasis in Voice. He currently teaches private music lessons throughout the state as well as arranging music, directing the Central CT Yankee Chorus of Wallingford, coaching ensembles and singing professionally.
Oliver Merrill (Lead) loses himself in the music from time to time. And every now and again, he finds himself there as well. He has sung for as long as he can remember, whether it be alone or with friends. He believes that music and laughter are the only medicine that don't come with negative side effects. He discovered his love for entertaining others when he tried musical theater for the first time, and along with it a knack for acting in various roles, such as Will Parker (Oklahoma!), Action (West Side Story), Motel the Tailor (Fiddler on the Roof), Lun Tha (The King and I), Danny Zuko (Grease) & Albert Peterson (Bye Bye Birdie). His latest passion is four-part harmony and the opportunity to share the love of music with young people of all ages. He is the proud father of a musical Patrick, the proud husband of a musical Stephanie, the proud son of a musical mama, and the proud friend of three musical dudes. Enjoy the music!
Karl Hudson (Bass) was introduced to barbershop in 2002 when Men in Black formed as a college quartet. It was there he discovered the world’s best key secret, barbershop harmony. Karl is a performer & voice over artist. He has appeared in numberous productions. Some roles include Coalhouse in “Ragtime”, Kiume in Disney’s Festival of the Lion King, Joe in “Showboat”, Frederik Egerman in “A Little Night Music” and Monsor in the world premier of “One Man’s War”. In addition to Men in Black, Karl also sings bass for DIsney Entertainment’s premier a cappella group “Voices of Liberty” and the vocal band The EdgeEffect.
Ray Johnson (Baritone) is a twenty-year member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. While attending the Hartt School of Music as a musical theater major he found himself away from his hometown chorus the Berkshire Hillsmen for the first time, and was extremely fortunate to find three other men with which to enjoy his close-harmony heritage. Recently married and moved to St. Joseph MO, he is thrilled to be able to keep singing with his three best friends. He is currently a voice teacher at the Missouri Institute and can be found performing in both local and Kansas City productions. Ray loves inspiring students to reach their potential while he strives on stage to reach his own.
Men in Black is not only available for your convention or party performance, this group of gentlemen has multiple music degrees between them and close to 100 years of experience in instrumental and vocal music, theater, and performance. The members have appeared as featured performers, clinicians and coaches in almost all 50 states, Canada, and Europe, where they were a featured guest artist of the Vaasa, Finland National Choral Festival. There is not another ensemble that creates a sound like Men in Black!
