Jimmie Sands is a singer-songwriter and adopted son of Northern California and the Great Grass Coast. He plays a mix of Country, Pop, and Island Music known as Grass Coast Country.
Jimmie manages to mix the laid back vibe of Bob Marley with a streak of Willie Nelson outlaw spirit. He is as humble and kind as Tim McGraw as he’s setting the world on fire like Kenny Chesney.
Jimmie Sands writes heartfelt lyrics and couples them with concise, poppy musical compositions.

Jimmie manages to weave a tapestry of laid back Northern California vibes and nervous New England energy. He’s known to digress into self-depreciating stories of down-home mayhem between songs and actively interacts with the audience. Expect a lot of laughs and an occasional tear. He’s a compact farmer-type with an acoustic guitar and a contagious laugh.
Jimmie Sands (ˈʤɪmi sændz; born May 20, 1970) is an American Grasscoast Country singer, songwriter and guitarist from Northern California’s Mendocino County. He is currently doing work for his new project on Long Island, outside of New York City, where he was raised. He is the son of photographer Robert Terry Sanderson and Elizabeth Conner.
Sands began writing songs and improvising on his father’s classical guitar around the age of 8. In high school, he formed a band called Batteman’s Clock, an original act that went on to win the Long Island Battle of the Bands. He holds a business degree from Suffolk College and a philosophy degree from Stony Brook University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honors Society.
After college he moved to Brooklyn and played a year long residency at Nightingales in the East Village with the likes of Nora Jones and Leslie Feist. The act, known as Jim & Danielle, showcased their original material throughout the city. With the help of his brother Eric Sanderson and some friends from the SUNY New Paltz Jazz program, Sands produced and recorded their first self-released album. Eric went on to form Augustines, an indie rock band based in Brooklyn, New York which included guitarist Billy McCarthy and drummer Rob Allen. Augustines were known for their intense shows and heavy interaction with the audience..
Later, Sands moved out to Mendocino in Northern California’s Emerald Triangle to raise a family and check out the booming cannabis industry. Although it didn’t work out too well for him, he seemed to find a silver lining. While serving three years in Federal Prison, Sands returned to playing a classical guitar and developed a style he calls Grasscoast Country. His songs express the life and evolving culture of North America’s Great Grasscoast.
Sands is currently working on a thirteen track demo for his first solo album and accompanying film tilled “Jimmie Sands-Grasscoast Country”.
For house concerts and tiny rooms it is possible to perform without sound reinforcement.
For anything larger:
– A SM58 microphone is preferred for vocals. This should be mounted on a tripod boom stand.
– A small diaphragm condenser microphone (any brand) is preferred for the guitar. This should also be mounted on a tripod boom stand.
– A monitor system is required.
– A small amount of reverb is to be applied to the vocals and the guitar.
– A reasonable amount of non-modulated Slapback delay on the vocals is also a plus.
Titles by Jimmie Sands include “Days like this”, “What I Love”, “Country Radio”, “Greenblood”, “Bleeding Pen”, “Grasscoast Country”, “Grasscoast Crazy”, “Harvest Time”, “I Just Wanna Love You”, “Live on my Time”, “Potholes in the Hills”, “Shine on Thru”, “Spin”, “Stuck on Chill”, “Top Heavy Demi”, “Up the Trials”, “Weed Wagon”, “Original Homegrown”, “Little One’s Drean” and “You and Me & the Sea”.
