I am a highly animated storyteller. Stories range from 5 to 30 minutes or longer. An hour performance generally includes 10-12 stories. I have several different costume selections.
I am a 65-year-old on the outside and 10 years old on the inside, exploding with funny faces, funny voices and funny stories about dogs, cats, ducks, leprechauns, hillbillies and giggles; then turning on a dime to give chills and screams with tales of ghosts and the supernatural. Maybe you want to recall fondly childhood experiences or view historic events or characters from a new perspective.
I come by my storytelling talent honestly. I am the great-great-great grandson of Davy Crockett, who invented the tall tale. I have a story about him, too. I am a graduate of East Texas State University (I think they call it Texas A&M University at Commerce) in journalism and English. That mostly means I know how to put a sentence together that makes sense and I work well on a deadline.
An event planner can expect a extremely friendly and cooperative speaker who is on time and adapts easily to changing situations. I am able to create new material for specific needs of any group. I even have a program of adult only humor (not too raunchy, just a little titillating). Another topic which is entirely different yet hopefully inspiring is my life dealing with REM(Rapid Eye Movement) sleep disorder. This means I never go into the deepest levels of sleep but stay in the dream state.
I have led guided tours of downtown Brooksville, Florida and spoken to groups at Hernando Public Library, Brooksville Rotary Club, Timber Pines Garden Club, Sweetfields Farm corn and sunflower mazes in Mazaryktown, schools, among many others in Hernando, Citrus and Pasco counties. My guest columns have appeared in the Hernando section of the Tampa Bay Times and short stories in Cynic Online Magazine. My play What in the Dickens Happened to Scrooge has been published by Eldridge Publishing with several productions around the country in school and communitiy theaters. I have played Scrooge in two productions at Spring Hill theaters. I have three self-published novels and two storytelling CDs. I appreciate the opportunity to sell my books and CDs at speaking events.
I have a loud voice. I usually don't need a microphone, but I have worked with a microphone and know how to adjust my voice accordingly. Lighting and staging is not necessary. All I need is an audience and a place to stand.
No set is necessary.
I was greatly influenced by the late great Andy Griffith.
