How did the band form???
-It all started last summer on the M.A.P. trip to Detroit. M.A.P. stands for Mission Apprentice Program and
began years ago at White Oak Presbyterian Church. High school and college students pay their way to
travel to a place where people desperately need help. They paint, make repairs to homes, haul trash, and
anything else that needs to be done. They also build a relationship with the people they are helping. There
is time off for recreation and in the evening they gather together, sometimes around a camp fire, where
they share the day’s events, sing and pray for the people they are helping, and pray for themselves and any
special concerns.
It was on this particular M.A.P. trip that the praise band, “Count the Stars” was born. Corey Hudson
had brought his guitar and Julia Denny her violin. Corey started singing some
praise music. Then Corey started strumming some different sounding chords on his guitar and a new
melody was created. The group joined in to write the words to this new song, “Give Me A Few Days” which was later shortened to " A Few Days" As the week continued, they began thinking about forming a praise band. Of course they needed a name, and so “Count The Stars” was born.
We handle our own lights and sound unless both are provided for us.
Our set list now normally consists of all original songs. But we've been known to throw a couple of cover songs in the mix.
