Mission Statement of "Blackstrap Molasses" (Professional Party Band)
It is our mission to move you. It is our sincerest desire that the funk be with you. Upon hearing our rapturous
sounds we hope that the urge to shake what you have consumes you. If so, you will dance until one of the following
occurs:
1) You fall down 2) You attract a mate 3) Both
You may find yourself asking, “Self. Who are these folks known as ‘Blackstrap Molasses'? And why are they here?”
The answer will descend upon you like a herd of Zebra crossing the Serengeti. As you enter the room and hear the
boom you will be overcome by the urge to gyrate. Look for this heavenly experience at The Big Easy, Amra's, Wild
Wing Cafe, and many other establishments across this great land of ours.
Blackstrap Molasses, like the mighty Voltron, is a single creature made up of different parts, each part like a
mechanical lion ready to pounce on the groove as if it were an unsuspecting gazelle. Each capable of rocking your
socks clear off of your body and into the next time zone.
But perhaps this prose is too esoteric. Here are some definitions of "Blackstrap Molasses," that are truly worthy of The
Merriam Webster Collegiate Dictionary.
Blackstrap Molasses – an inexhaustible source of jam to move your pants.
Blackstrap Molasses – what Paul McCartney meant when he said “Let it Be.”
Blackstrap Molasses – IS YOUR SOURCE FOR THE BEST IN DANCE, ROCK, AND MUCH, MUCH MORE
Lindsey McKay, Lead Vocals
Lindsey grew up in Denver, North Carolina where she sang in local churches and performed in high school musicals. Now, Lindsey expresses her love for music with Blackstrap Molasses by belting out all of her favorite songs. Favorite artists range from rock bands like ACDC, Queen, Joan Jett, and Journey to soulful classics like Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, and Janis Joplin. With an appreciation for pop artists such as Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, and Black-eyed Peas, she brings lots of energy and talent to the stage.
Todd Miller, Lead Guitar & Vocals
As an Air Force brat, Todd Miller traveled throughout the US and Europe, landing in Fayetteville, North Carolina at the age of fifteen. There he started playing guitar in bands and doing a few little theatre gigs. A few lost weekends later he found himself in a classroom at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. Miller then spent the next twenty years gigging, recording, and teaching guitar in the Charlotte area. As he has a bad attitude and does not play well with others, Miller played in numerous bands throughout the years, including Cherry Bomb, Daddy Blue, Colorblind, Cry Uncle, Cookie, Blind Taxi, and a few dozen others.
Guitarists Miller is a big fan of include Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, and Steve Morse. Favorite songwriters and bands include The Beatles, the Who, Prince and Stevie Wonder.
These days Miller spends his days teaching music, and his nights torturing his wife, his two children, and his band mates.
Richard McCorkell, Bass Guitar
Originally from the Philadelphia area, Richard McCorkell has been performing as a multi-instrumentalists for quite some time on both regional and national levels. The bass has been his latest interest and seems to be his most enjoyable. The aspect of both rhythm and the role of the bass guitar appeals to him greatly. Rich is not only a live performer, but also composes and records out of his project studio, RELUCTANT ICON for various professional and artistic projects. The move down to the Raleigh music scene has brought many rewarding opportunities. You can check out his work and efforts at (link hidden)
Jeremy Davis, Drums & Vocals
Jeremy "JD" Davis cut his teeth playing drums in the pre‐grunge Seattle‐area scene. He has played various styles of music since 1985 ranging from orchestral percussion to jazz to pop to 80's hair metal ‐ a genre he still holds close to his heart. Influences include Tico Torres (Bon Jovi) and Rod Morgenstein (Winger, Dixie Dregs) as well as singing drummers Don Henley (Eagles) and Phil Collins (Genesis).
In 2006 JD took his passion for 80’s rock and founded the 80’s rock cover band, Aftershock. He also played with the party pop cover band Cherry. When he's not playing drums with Blackstrap Molasses, you can find JD at his "day job" at Cisco Systems, out in the local music scene appreciating other area bands or hanging out with his amazing family.
