I began at the tender age of ten. I loved Disney, more importantly, The Lion King, when I was younger and I loved to play the songs over and over again just so I could sing along. It was one of my favorite things to do.
When I was in middle school, I began looking into the school choir. For seven years, I was in choir and sang at every concert. However, surprisingly, I never had a solo. In high school, I took summer school twice so I could stay in choir. When I was a senior, I finally got a shot at that solo I was striving for. I soaked up enough bravery and peer pressure to try out. I waited the grueling three days for the teacher to make his decision. I had not one but TWO solos for the big song at our last concert of the year! I was so excited I couldn't breathe. However, the day before the concert, the teacher announced that we would have to cancel the song because he did not feel the background vocals were strong enough.
To me, this was not acceptable. So, instead of crying and sulking over it, I decided I wanted a bigger audience. I found a private teacher to help me vamp up my voice. She also gave me a chance for the County Fair in my hometown! This was my chance. I practiced for months preparing three songs that I thought best fit my voice. After four months of hard work, she said I was ready.
It was my turn next, but I instantly froze. I kept telling my mom that I didn't want to go up there. I climbed those treacherous steps up to that daunting microphone and nervously introduced myself. After the first song, my heart stopped beating so rapidly and I was able to focus. I threw out the other two amazingly without a quiver in my voice. I made my mom and dad cry that day. It was the first time they had ever seen me on stage... and not the last!
Over the next three years, I performed on six separate occassions. Three songs each; 15 minutes of fame, as they say. I had gotten this down to a science when my teacher dropped a bombshell on me. This year I was going to do a full half hour with no introductions! Ok, the singing I could do, but the talking to the audience thing?! Well, I guess that was part of it. So, while practicing my music, I also practiced my presence. When the time came, I was flawless in my performance. I loved being on stage and didn't want to quit.
However, with a move in with the new boyfriend impending upon me, money and schooling was important. So, I found a college and a job, and quit singing for two years. Now, I feel this hunger and need to be on stage again. After my wedding, I decided to go for it. I am a professional singer! If you have a need for a singer, just send me a message and ask!
