Artists: Holly Yu (violin), Luke Chong (violin), Danny Cho (violin/viola), Ryan Song (cello)
These are young artists. They like to mixed favorite classical tunes with pop and dance music. They introduce composer background and pieces for more serious classical pieces when necessary. They are humorous. They have been well received in every venue performed so far and invited back to many centers to perform.
About the artists:
Holly Yu is currently the concertmaster of Aliso Niguel High School’s orchestra. She was inspired to play violin in 4th grade when she first pulled a few strings on her sister's dusty half-size violin. She split her passion in both violin and competitive softball for 5 years, taking violin lessons from a neighborhood teacher. Holly studies violin currently with Juilliard graduate, William Fitzpatrick. Since then, she has participated in two years of SCSBOA honor orchestra (2012 4th chair), Orange Country Youth Symphony Orchestra, Junior Chamber Music, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, California Summer Music, and the Musishare Young Artist Program, where she played in master classes taught by Cornelia Heard, Bettina Musumelli, Shirley Givens, Eugene Drucker, Stephen Clapp, Peter Marsh, Phillip Setzer and Michel Zaitzeff.
Ryan Song started his musical journey when his older brother first introduced him to the violin when he was in second grade. Once he joined the school orchestra program in 4th grade, he was enamored by graceful body and warm, rich sound of the cello,
so he switched to that instrument the following year. Ever since, Song has become very highly involved in music, serving as the principal cellist in the school orchestra every year since 5th grade, participating in the Capistrano Unified School District Honor Orchestra since 5th grade, and being a part of the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, serving as both assistant principal and co-principal cellist in the orchestra. As part of PSYO, he went on a three-concert tour in Bulgaria and was given the opportunity to perform the cello solo in their rendition of Swan Lake. Aside from playing the cello, Song also enjoys playing guitar and singing
classic rock songs (especially the Beatles).
Danny Cho is currently a Junior attending Aliso Niguel High School. His interest in music began when his mom first taught him how to play the piano. While continuing his lessons in piano, Danny began violin lessons in 3rd grade and also joined a choir. He was forced to quit both piano and singing when he moved to America from South Korea in 4th grade. Then he immediately took the opportunity to become a better musician when his middle school music teacher suggested switching to viola. While playing both violin and viola, Danny plays violin for the Orange County Youth SymphonyOrchestra. As of this year, he has been a part of
OCYSO for 4 years as a violinist. Danny now helps the orchestra by leading the second violins as the principle player and plays alongside Holly Yu in the ANHS orchestra as a section leader.
Luke Chong has just graduated from high school, about to attend Biola University as a possible Music Major. Growing up, he started playing violin and piano because of his parents, but he soon fell in love with classical music. With his mom playing piano and his brother playing cello, his family would often play at senior centers playing hymn music. Luke had many violin teachers, but was mainly taught by the renowned violinist, Georgette Popa, for two years before stopping private lessons. Though he's currently without a tutor, he still plays for the Aliso Niguel Orchestra and finds any opportunity he can to pursue classical music.
